On Saturday, October 15th, the Hopkins JV Boys soccer team,
played a home game against Sabis on the varsity field, a team not
usually on Hopkins’ schedule. The field was wet due to heavy rain
before the game, and this would lead to some very interesting plays. As
usual, when the Hawks are successful, they score early. Chad
Sanderson scored a goal to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead within the first
ten minutes. Minutes later Sabis got lucky when they scored a goal
off of a deflected cross into the penalty box. About ten minutes
later Chad Sanderson scored another goal, his second of the game, to
give Hopkins a 2-1 lead. The hard-fought first half would end with a
2-1 Hopkins lead. The second half began with a strong Sabis attack,
which would result in a goal about ten minutes into the second half.
Nearly five minutes later, a retaliatory goal by Cole Burdell just
inside the penalty box gave Hopkins a 3-2 lead. There were many shots
by both teams during the rest of the second half without any result.
Both teams fought hard, but the Hawks came out victorious. The final
score was 3-2.
