Russia wants to Establish Manned Bases on the Moon

In Uncategorized on January 27, 2012 at 1:28 pm

Russia is talking to both NASA and the European Space Agency to propose a plan to start building a manned research community on the moon. This is big news in both the scientific and political front as Russia had not made any plans to visit the moon let alone partner with other space agencies since the space race in the early 1960’s. The RFSA, Russia’s version NASA approved this plan and talked to NASA Thursday about this matter. RFSA also announced that that it supports the theory that humans can be stationed on the mood safely for substantial amounts of time. The RFSA is supported by a large group of scientists that agree with this claim. RFSA chief Popovkin said Thursday, “Today, we know enough about it, we know that there is water in its polar areas,” Popovkin added that “we are now discussing how to begin (the moon’s) exploration with NASA and the European Space Agency.” Surly this exploration may make breakthrough discoveries regarding the presence of water and quite possibly terrestrial life on these planets. The mission, according to Popovkin would help and extent the previous unmanned missions to the moon that have already taken place. Russia hopes that their space agency will be able to meet a projected launch date of 2020.
