Since the beginning of the school year, rumors regarding Mrs. Bonneville leaving Hopkins have been floating around the school. A majority of students had been questioning whether Mrs. Bonneville will leave Hadley for the open principal position at South Hadley High School. As of last Thursday, with Mrs. Bonneville’s official submission of her registration received, it was confirmed that she has been hired to fill the South Hadley High School principal position. According to The Gazette, Dr. Young, the South Hadley superintendent, contacted Hadley’s interim school Superintendent Donna Moyer to ask that Mrs. Bonneville be released from her contract as Hopkins Academy’s principal to start in South Hadley come early December.
When asked for the student opinion on the matter, some believed the change would come with negative effects. One senior, Amanda Olson, feels “like its bad timing. Hopkins is still looking for a permanent superintendent, and we have a bunch of new teachers”. Others seemed to view the change in a more positive light, Laurel King was quoted saying, “Mrs. Bonneville has been my principal since seventh grade, I will miss her, but I’m excited to see what a new principal would do.” Some wished Mrs. Bonneville congratulations, Samantha Nyarko a junior at Hopkins, was quoted saying, “Well it will be different without her, but I hope her new job goes well.”
Recently it has been confirmed that she will officially leave Hopkins Academy on the 22nd of December, and an interim principal will fill her shoes, as Hopkins continues its comprehensive search for a brand new principal!
We wish all the best to Mrs. Bonneville, and wish her good luck and a happy future as South Hadley High School’s new principal.
