Hello all, this is your Student Council president, Irene Georgiadis, and Treasurer, Madi Stevens, bringing you an update on the upcoming events hosted by Student Council. This Halloween, Thursday, October 31st, everyone is encouraged to wear a costume to school and to participate in the costume contest, which will be judged by faculty/staff. Great prizes will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd best costumes. Also on Halloween, you will have the opportunity to carve a pumpkin at home and bring it in and enter the Pumpkin Carving Contest for a chance to win even more prizes! Oh and did we mention everything is completely free? So you can dress up, carve a pumpkin, and potentially win awesome prizes, without paying a penny at school! So join in the fun, and be a little festive this year! It will be enjoyable for everyone, and make school a little more bearable! Until next time, stay classy Hopkins.

The whole month of October is national Gay-Straight awareness month. There is the Day Of Silence where everyone is recommended to not talk for a day in support of non-judgement towards homosexuals. Then from October 21 to the 25 is national Ally Week. According to GLSEN is “is a whole week where we can engage in a national dialogue about how everyone in and out of school can work to become better allies to LGBT youth. ”
If you log on to http://www.glsen.org/ you can take the pledge to support the GSA or Gay-Straight alliance. On this website you can also find more information about joining GSA, what it’s all about and how you can take action in the Day of Silence and Ally Week.
On Thursday October 24th come help us celebrate Ally Week with the Gay Straight Alliance club of Hopkins Academy. There will be an extravagant arrangement of food and refreshments for all! All students and faculty are welcome to join us! The more the merrier!
