Tebow To The New York Jets

Even though the NFL season ended in early February, there is still lots of action going on in the NFL. Most notably the acquisition of Peyton Manning by the Denver Broncos, and the trade of Tim Tebow to the New York Jets. Peyton Manning was released by the Colts in early March and in the time following it was unclear which team he would sign with. The Arizona Cardinals, Miami Dolphins, San Francisco 49ers, and the Tennessee Titans were all great candidates. Until the Denver Broncos came into the picture. After a few days of contemplation, Peyton Manning made the choice to sign with a team who made a playoff run with a very talented, unconventional quarterback, Tim Tebow. Manning signed a five-year/96 million dollar contract with Denver. This left little to no room for Tim Tebow. The Broncos responded by giving Tebow two options, either be traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars or to the New York Jets. Jacksonville is closer to where Tebow grew up, but New York would likely give Tebow a bigger stage and a better chance of going to the playoffs. Tebow chose the Jets.

However Tebow will have some competition, more than he had in the 2011 season. Mark Sanchez will be working harder than ever to keep his starting job. Especially after a season which was statistically his best, but still he failed to lead his team to the playoffs. Tebow will have to fight for his starting job, but there is no reason why he can’t be the Jets’ opening day starter.

UMASS athletics has struggled over the last few years in football, hockey, basketball, and baseball, especially in the 2010-2011 season. But over the last few years, UMASS has produced an impressive list of professional hockey players, some in football, and basketball too. Among the players is an Olympic Silver Medalist for the 2010 U.S.A. Olympic Hockey Team. Read the rest of this entry »
