This basketball season has brought many new challenges throughout the year, but none of them big enough to slow our team down. Being one of the four senior girls, watching our season draw close to the end, it’s hard to realize that this is our last year. This is our last chance to work as hard as we can to get as far as we can. So far, we’ve won the title of Co-champions with Easthampton, but we all believe that we can make it so much farther. Being with the three other senior girls for almost my entire life has been amazing, and having to realize that this is my last year with them is almost unbearable to think about. After having their second loss of the season to Greenfield last Thursday the 5th, the Hawks bounced back at Frontier yesterday. “I came into the game with the mindset that we needed to make up for the loss of Greenfield,” says center fielder James Garand. Tournament In Sight

In Sports on May 4, 2011 at 1:55 pm

The boys varsity baseball team seems to be on a roll with a total record of 8-1. With a win yesterday they are now tied for first place with Easthampton in the league.  The next  game for the Hawks is against Greenfield under the lights. It’s an away game that will truly be a test for the Hawks. If they come ready to win with the intensity that they brought against Easthampton making the tournament should not be a problem. The first pitch will be thrown at 7 p.m and fan turnout for Hopkins should be big.

To start off a new 2010-11 season  of basketball here at Hopkins Academy, we have a different coaching staff. Leading the boy’s varsity is returning coach Tim Mayo. This will be his second season coaching here at Hopkins Academy. This year’s roster for the team consists of two seniors (Paul Wanczyk and Eric Croft), four juniors (Andrew Bemben, Chris Koch, Adam Daniere, and Robby Cooke), and four sophomores (Satchel Teixeira, Tim Knightly, Ethan Wenner, and Denzel Colemen). With a relatively young team, they have a total of five returning varsity players: two seniors, two juniors, and one sophomore. Teixeira says, “We lost a lot of valuable players last year and we have a lot of work to do this year. Hopefully, we will make tournament.”
