When someone mentions a college that produces a lot of professional athletes, LSU, Texas, Duke, Notre Dame or UCLA might come to mind. How about UMASS Amherst? UMASS police; keeping the students safe

In News on October 7, 2011 at 12:57 pm

The University of Massachusetts is known for its 1,450 acres of beautiful and wide campus, its athletic community and its police department. The UMPD has helped and saved lives ever since the opening of UMASS in 1863. The UMASS police department has two main goals that the officers work hard for; to prevent and respond to criminal activity and emergencies. The department operates 24 hours per day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, providing patrol, investigation, specialized and emergency response, as well as crime prevention and educational services. Research shows and proves that the UMPD has saved hundreds of lives all the while keeping thousands of students safe and under control. Robert Waskiewicz, a police officer from UMASS who has worked there for 28 years states, “UMASS is a great community to work in. Faculty and students treat us with respect, and with that respect, the crime and death rate is exceptionally low for such a populated college.” The UMPD has done everything they can to keep the students safe, and as a student to be, I hope the college I choose has police officers around like the ones at UMASS!
